Honour – what does this card say to you?

To me it’s about living by our principles – easy when you know what they are – but do you? What is right and what is true – for you?

Practicising honour is treating everyone with respect and acceptance, the one thing we humans have in common is that we are all different and unique, there is no one else like us in the world.

This makes me wonder how come bullying is so prevalent in our society. I’ve heard of bullying taking place in preschools, in our primary schools children pick on those who are different from themselves & their friends, in high school the situation worsens to the point of our young adults wanting to, and sometimes succeeding in taking their own lives.

We have people in leadership roles who are in the position to empower others by guiding them to develop their skills & knowledge yet bully them instead because they themselves may lack the necessary qualities of character that encourages them to grow and develop also. Some governments spend lots of money on bullying yet their political campaigns revolve around criticising the other party.

I’d like to see us ‘honour’ each other by accepting and respecting our differences and elect our politicians in because of the qualities of their character – their integrity, honesty and wisdom.

What a different world we can create if we choose to. Make a choice. If you choose to participate then please share with your like-minded friends & family so we can build the synergy.

How to practice honour this week:

For you: Honour your own abilities by doing something meaningful for yourself.  For example, I have the ability to cook so I will take the time this week to make a dish that makes ME feel good.

For your family: Discuss as a family how you can show honour through appreciation via actions.  Highlight to your family when you notice that they are showing appreciation through their actions.

For child care centres & schools: Read stories & have discussions about the ways the characters showed honour. Read the above (honor) card and ask them what was right and true? Older children could be asked to suggest either a person, movie or book that represents what honour looks like to them. Discussions or debates about what honour looks like in today’s society for various cultures.

For your workplace: Treat everyone with respect and courtesy. Be open to the different perspectives raised at meetings. Focus on common goals.

I would love to hear how you included the global virtue of honour into your thoughts and actions this week. Tell me via facebook, send me an email or give me a call.
