Humility – serving and accepting

Humility – serving and accepting

12-18 November 2018

Life is full of up and downs. There are times when you feel on top of the world and that life can’t get any better and there are times when you find yourself in situations that you never thought you would be in. It is the down times when humility is often learnt.

When you are in a happy place in your life it is important to remember that others may not be as fortunate as you are at this stage of their life and that you can serve them by being understanding and treating others with courtesy and respect and valuing them for who they are and what they offer the world as sometimes they lose sight of their gifts within.

Have you ever seen people who have displayed humility with such reserve that you didn’t recognise that they were even being humble at the time? Observing a person in a position of power who is not only knowledgeable, but also wise and caring, consult with others by showing genuine interest in their thoughts and ideas and gives others the time they need to share their perspectives.

When life is challenging humility is required to acknowledge that you may need some help, then requesting the support that you realise you need and finally accepting the assistance you receive from others.

Whether you are on a up or down at the moment you can practice humility by asking for a boost when you need it or by boosting someone else’s spirits by showing them how you value them by how you treat them. Who will you benefit this week?

Self-development means constant transformation and growth throughout your life.  Allow the ‘Virtue Of The Week’ to serve as a gentle reminder of who you are, and who you want to be. Contribute by creating the world you want to live in as you are aware of developing your character each week and inspire others to do the same. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Actions to take to practice Humility (5 mins a day max.):

  • Every morning:
    1. Read the card
    2. Reflect on what the card is saying to you right now
    3. Have a great day. Trust that at the right time this virtue will come to the front of mind when you need it.
  • Every evening:
    1. Reflect on whether you implemented this virtue today
    2. If you didn’t – what could you do differently next time? If you did – acknowledge it within yourself.
