Justice – Virtue of the Week

Justice – Virtue of the Week

1-7 February 2016

Justice – Characteristic / Virtue of the Week

Practising one virtue a week together will assist in making the world a better place, help you to get to know yourself better and create a more united community when you are practising the same virtue as others around you – can you imagine the difference it would make to your environment if everyone around you strived to practice this together?

Justice

Justice – What does this card say to you today?

This card reminds you that justice includes you and that when you consider people’s rights include your own – so many people forget to include themselves when it comes to being fair and often give more than they expect to receive – many women, especially mothers, tend to do this.

This is also a challenging card as it requires us to be mindful of our behaviour and actions and act with integrity at all times and not stand by and watch acts of injustice take place.

Justice seems to be missing in some aspects of our society and some people have the courage, at their risk, to stand up for justice and take a stand again people who steal as we all want to live in a safer society.

How to practice Justice:

For young adults & adults:

  • Consider what you can do to restore justice in our society
  • Be mindful that small things can create big impacts – the more smaller things you do add up and make a big difference in your life
  • Do not backbite – be mindful that we all have different perceptions and instead learn how to respect other’s differences

For child care centres & schools:

  • Discuss ‘backbiting’ with children and read the ‘Feathers In The Wind’ story and discuss consequences of the story with them.
  • Explain that justice means being fair in all that we do and ask them what they means and how would they notice acts of justice and injustice.

For families:

  • Clear up issues with each other face to face.
  • As parents have ‘date nights’ and decide how frequently they take place, and what the budget is for date night – take turns in determining what to do on date night. Be fair, do things the other likes to do when it’s their turn.

For businesses & organisations:

  • Ensure all agreements are fair for all parties – would the business and the client accept each other’s experiences from a point of justice?
  • Is justice prevailing between management and staff by sharing and building business collectively?
