Congruence

Dare I say it again? Parenting can be tough – and it can be quite simple once you have all your ducks in a row as the saying goes.

In my book ‘How To Raise Kids With Integrity’ I constantly talk about the importance of role modelling. As a parent, childcare educator or teacher, you have a vital role in a child’s development.

You are their role model and what you say and what you do is about being congruent. As a parent you can’t take a child to a fun park and ask them to say they are younger than what they are just so it costs less to get in.

Remember you are raising your child with integrity and they are constantly observing whether your words and actions match up. You can’t teach them to be honest and expect them to not be honest because it suits your pocket. The price you pay is much higher than you may realise.

Teachers can’t tell their students to treat them with respect if they don’t treat their students with respect.

Childcare educators are to be kind, loving and fair to all children in their care. Children feel it as well as watch it and form their own opinions which are sometimes detrimental to their well-being.

Be mindful of what you do this week and whether your words and actions and speak to your child about how their words and actions match up – knowing that they’ll pull you up for it too!
Have fun!
