Consistency – Habits vs Intensity

The benefits and disadvantages of consistency

Consistency – Habits vs Intensity

Consistency is habit forming

Consistency is habit-forming and helps you to succeed in accomplishing your desired result whatever it may be. Goals are best achieved through regular behavior. Depending on the goal, bursts of intensity can also be helpful.

An example of consistency and intensity

For instance, KonMari-ing your home is not something that can be achieved in one day. Marie Kondo suggests decluttering in this order:

  • Clothes
  • Books
  • Paperwork & documents
  • Komono
  • Sentimental items

Allowing 30 minutes a day probably isn’t realistic as each category can be time-consuming. Furthermore, by following Marie’s suggested process along with her method is something that can be done by being consistent. Bouts of intensity can also help you reach your goal quicker.

One story I recall being told as a child was about the tortoise and the hare. The moral of the story is slow and steady wins the race. This is true regarding any plan or vision you strive to achieve. It can be done and will be done if you just take the action required.

What is consistency about?

Consistency is taking consistent action steps. It is being reliable, steady and focussed on something specific and sticking to your goal until you achieve it. To practice consistency, you can create a habit that supports you in achieving your goal until completed. Creating a regular routine is key to achieving your goal.

Who practices consistency?

Successful individuals, leaders, mentors, and everyday people who have a goal or purpose in life have found that consistency supports them in achieving their goal or fulfill their purpose quickly. Instigating habits is pivotal when practicing consistency. Keeping focussed on your goal and taking small, frequent, actions until you have completed your goal is a great way of practicising consistency.

How can consistency help me in life?

Whatever your goal, whether it be to lose weight, get fit, or save money consistency will help you maintain and accomplish your objective. When you achieve any goal you feel good about yourself. Acknowledging your consistency and sense of achievement, makes you feel good about yourself and it raises your self-confidence.

Consistency, the downside

Being consistent, focussed, steadfast and reliable is admirable, opposed to being judgemental about how consistent others are, or are not, is not admirable. Flexibility within consistency is necessary, for yourself and others. Rigidity and self-righteous is something you need to be aware of when your thoughts turn in that direction.

Everyone goes through challenging times in their life and while consistency does help you get back on track you need to be mindful of your attitude, thoughts, and behavior towards yourself and others. You never know what the reason behind people’s behaviour is. People take action or don’t take action for a variety of reasons – emotional, financial, technological, physical, family issues, personal reasons, etc.

It is not necessary to be critical of anyone, including yourself, be kind, be kind, be kind.

Consistency Character Card

How do you build character?

Focus on one characteristic a week. As a result you will discover that when the opportunity arises the weekly characteristic will come to mind. You will intuitively know when and how to apply it. Characteristics aren’t something that you gain and then you have. You constantly ‘become’ who you wish to be – life is a journey, not a destination. In conclusion, life The ride is easier when you focus on deepening and strengthing your characteristics. When times are tough you will discover how resilient you are. Feeling content is another benefit.
