Decisiveness

Making up your mind

Decisiveness is making up your mind about something. Sometimes it’s quick and easy, while other times lots of time is taken to make your mind up.

Every day you make up your mind about hundreds of decisions. Your mind is in a perpetual state of activity, with thoughts flowing ceaselessly about your current actions or aspirations for the future.

In my experience, significant choices tend to fall into one of two extremes regarding time requirements. They either demand extensive contemplation or require swift, immediate action.

Consider a scenario where a fire erupts in your home. The urgency of a situation necessitates a rapid decision, prompting you to take appropriate action swiftly.

Some decisions that often take some time to consider are whether or not to have a family, when to start a family; when to purchase a house, and furniture choices. All these decisions do not require immediate resolution.

To make better decisions, we should be aware that every decision carries consequences that typically require some form of subsequent action.

Being a parent is a massive responsibility because it impacts the rest of your life and your child. As a parent, it’s up to you to help your child make choices that serve them throughout their life.

Regardless of your child’s age, they do make decisions. A baby can’t verbalise as well as a toddler or older child, yet babies certainly communicate whether or not they are happy, tired, hungry, happy or content.

During your parenting journey, your child will frequently pose inquiries and, in turn, be subjected to questioning. As a parent, it is crucial to assist them in acquiring the skill of decision-making while establishing a solid groundwork upon which they can rely when making choices.

Once a strong foundation has been established and recognised, it nurtures a sense of confidence within an individual.

Decisions when can be made with clarity and decisiveness. Their internal compass points towards the true north. There is no doubt about where to head despite external influences.

As a new parent or parent of a toddler, this is your time to assist your child in developing an ability to make decisions that serve them.
