Hope – Characteristic / Virtue of the Week

30 July – 5 August 2018

Hope

The very word hope gives you hope – that there is a brighter, better way ahead – whether it be something you consider small or large, it is a thought, an idea, that provides a feeling of anticipation and potentially a bit of courage to take the next step towards achieving that brilliant idea or thought to assist you move forward in the direction you imagined in your mind.

Everyone of us have something to offer the world and we don’t necessarily even know what that is and what impact it has but we all contribute to the evolution of humanity in some way and somehow. Whether it be within the everyday action of serving the public through your job or creating something that changes the world you have an impact.

All throughout your life you will take steps that propel you in a direction and sometimes the steps you take will seem to be steps backwards however in the long run, in the future, you will look back and see that those backward steps helped you move forward in another way – you grow stronger in a virtue which impacts on your emotional development – and wisdom!

Hope will only get you so far – taking the next step is the essential action required to fulfil that dream of what you hope to achieve. Then reflect on your actions and discover what you could do differently next time to continue to move in the direction you seek.

What do you want to achieve or change in your life or in the world? What is the next step you need to take? What do you need to get there? 3, 2, 1 – go get it.

Self-development means constant transformation throughout your life – allow the ‘Virtue of the Week’ to serve as a gentle reminder of who you are and who you want to be. Help create the world you want to live in as you practice a virtue each week you also serve as a positive example to others and inspire others to do the same. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Actions to take to practice Hope:

  • Every morning:
    1. Read the card
    2. If you feel the need take a few minutes to reflect on what it means to you right now
    3. Trust that at the right time during the day this virtue will come to mind and you will know when to act on it
  • Every evening:
    1. Take a few minutes to reflect on how you applied this virtue in your life today
    2. If you didn’t practice it, learn from your experiences by considering what you would do differently next time. If you did practice it then acknowledge yourself for doing so as it increases your self-awareness and self-confidence.
    3. Acknowledge yourself when you do apply this virtue in your life. You will become more self-aware and more confident within yourself.
