Idealism – what’s possible

What does idealism mean?

Idealism is what’s possible in your world. Once you have achieved one thing you want to improve it, better it or up the level somehow. Or if that’s not possible then consider what else, or another area of your life you want to work on.

There’s a difference you can make to the world and it’s through knowing what’s possible and working towards it. At work, you can contribute to changes in policies and procedures by offering your input and suggestions to upper management. Some listen and are grateful for your input, some don’t.

Or you could want to make changes within your personal life with your partner or family. What image do you have in your head and have you shared it with your partner? Unless you share information about what you imagine and visualise your dream will remain a secret rather than become a reality.

Why idealism is important

Of course, we’ll all like to win the lottery and live happily ever after. Statistics show that many people who win a truckload of money, often don’t know what to do with it. Many end back in the same position they were in the first place. Isn’t life weird?

While it’s great to have the fortune of winning a lottery, it seems that many people are generally happy with what they already have. There’s nothing like appreciating what you have and living in the present. Contentment is the feeling that comes with appreciation for what you have.

Little goals can become big things. Whatever it is you imagine can become a reality. Electricity, running water, telephones, televisions and cars were all started by just an image in someone’s mind before it became a reality. What idealistic vision do you have in mind?

Idealism to realism

Idealism can be something that you hope for that is within reach. It could be something that you wish for that seems out of reach. There’s a quote by William Arthur Ward that says ‘If you can imagine it, you can create it. If you can dream it, you can become it.’

This quote helps you imagine the possibilities of what your life, or life, in general, could be like. Life is full of possibilities and everything created started with a thought or a dream.

However, it takes work to create your dream and build whatever it is you can imagine. Action is always required, and if you’re a little lost there is someone out there who can help you get started. It does start with you though – if you’d like to explore some possibilities for you then click here to book a time for a free coaching session.

PARENTING TIPS

1. Ask your child about what they would like to be different at home, at school, and ask how they think it could happen. Interesting conversations will take place I suspect!

2. Talk to children about what has been created in the world because of people who have had thoughts about how things could be different and then took the action to make the dream become a reality.

3. Discuss with your child how they can make a difference. Lots of little things can make a big difference. Being friendly to another child and asking them to play can make a difference in the life of a lonely child. Let them know that the things they do can seem small but can have a massive impact.
