Raising Go-Getters

As a parent teaching your child about initiative usually means raising a go-getter. It involves providing encouragement and support to your child frequently. Let them know you believe in them and that they can do whatever they set their hearts and minds to.

When children are born, they are full of joy and are tiny, happy beings. They do not lack self-belief or self-confidence. They know they’re loved.

That is the status quo that parents aspire to maintain for their children.

It’s easier said than done. Children impact your life from the moment they are born.

They cause you the greatest joy, together with frustration due to lack of sleep and responsibilities that take up so much time and energy. You feel sapped, and it’s hard to remember not to snap at them.

Be kind and encouraging as much as you can because your words have an impact that affects their self-belief and self-confidence.

Balance negative words with positive, considerate and loving words that put that spark of joy back into them.

Do things with them that they love to do. Like Ben & Zara on TikTok – just watching this dad and daughter-duo makes me happy.

From what I’ve read Ben said they used to do these things at home privately, then they took the initiative to share it on TikTok.

Not only has it brought them joy, but it has also made so many others happy just watching them together. Me included.

Not everyone needs to share their passions with the world.

If it’s something you feel you want or need to do, do it – as long as it positively impacts others.

However, there will always be the critics. Always remember that happy people don’t criticise others, unhappy people do.

When raising a go-getter child, they know what they want and go and get it.

They feel they are on purpose. In their mind, there is no doubt they can achieve what they want. Encourage them, help them, support them.

As a parent, you will always want to support their dreams and aspirations if you know what they are.

When you encourage your child, they will share their desires with you, knowing they have your support because you have their back.

Whether your child is learning how to tie their shoelaces, ride a bike, solve a problem, or encounter a task they’ve never done, they are learning how to take initiative.

They will do these things on their own one day, without you.

Raising go-getters are the children who become people who take action and solve problems that require fixing.

They are the future leaders who confidently take the initiative to create or change things for the better.
