Inspiration – you never know

Inspiration – you never know when and who you will inspire someone, or why. In the last 24 hours, I was inspired by someone I met, and spoke to, for less than 5 minutes. We quickly connected, swapped contact details and arranged a zoom meeting this coming week.

Naturally, I checked out the links they’d shared with me and discovered more about them. It’s simply amazing what some people achieve in this world. Then again, we all inspire others. Sometimes we discover the impact we have and other times we don’t.

During the last 24 hours, the mysterious universe reconnected me with a prior coaching client who currently lives on the other side of the world. My ex-client shared with me what’s going on in her life and her thoughts on my influence. When’s the last time you discovered you inspired someone?

When inspiration strikes

Last night I visited a friend who’d been on my mind lately. Catching up with friends is always a feel-good, but I left feeling great as I felt I had inspired her a little. You never know when inspiration strikes. It wasn’t my intention when I planned to visit or arrived yet it happened somehow.

During the evening, the conversation had turned to clutter. Her family are confessed, hoarders. Although she had read and seen Netflix videos she hadn’t come across Marie Kondo whom I raved about.

My friend immediately put NetFlix on and searched for decluttering and Marie came up. We watched one of the videos together which showcased a family situation. I left my friend’s house after physically showing her how to fold the clothes and have had SMS messages today letting me know she’s started the process and even sent me photos.

As it was my friend’s birthday yesterday, her mum and brother were present also. This morning, my friend SMS’d me to tell me that not only was she sorting out clothing today but both her mum and brother are also decluttering today, her brother is doing his shed. I’m pretty happy to have inspired three people who state they are hoarders to begin their decluttering journey. (Admittedly, they do have a lot of non-essential stuff).

Why inspiration is important

Although my friend has started her inspirational decluttering journey I expect she will find it challenging. People who hoard do so for a reason. Often there’s a lot of emotion around it.

I’ve been inspired to take action, on another front, by the person I met yesterday. Many people are an inspiration to us, but it often takes knowing someone personally to be inspired.

I know that I have a list of tasks I have set myself that I want to do before I meet with my new acquaintance later in the week. He’s a mover, and a shaker, and his rules for his business are people must respect each other. No surprise I felt a connection due to similiar values.

What goes around comes around, as they say, some days you’re inspired and other days you inspire. You feel good either way. It feels great to inspire others and it feels great when I take action because I’ve been inspired. There are many inspiring podcasts, videos and music I listen to that I find inspiring, but, there’s nothing like knowing someone personally who you find inspiring. Connect with someone who inspires you and do your best to be an inspiration to someone today.

PARENTING TIPS

1. Ask a child who inspires them to do things and how come?

2. Read the card above to your child and have discussions with them about inspiration and let them know who inspires you and what inspires you to take action. Mention actions that you like doing and actions that you don’t like doing but do anyway.

3. Watch an inspiring movie together – there’s movies for all ages and all topics. There’s nothing like an inspiring movie that brings emotions to the forefront. Recently I watched Hacksaw Ridge which isn’t for young children but teenagers might like it. My all time favourite movie though is The Intouchables – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched that movie and I could sit down again and watch it right now if only I had the time!
