Mindfulness – being consciously aware

Mindfulness – being consciously aware

4-10 February 2019

Mindfulness is being consciously aware of your words, your actions, your thoughts, your beliefs, your environment, your impact, your attitude, your feelings, your emotions, your situation, your knowledge, your attitude, your possibilities, your opportunities and an endless list of so much more.

Are you aware of where your beliefs come from and what impact they are having on you? Are your beliefs helping you get what you want out of life or are they hindering you from moving forward? Are they stopping you from doing what you want?

Your beliefs impact your words, the biggest impact are the words you say to yourself – which are likely to have come from a role model from your past, such as a parent, teacher, carer or someone that you looked up to at some stage when you were younger.

Did they tell you that you were stupid, an idiot and useless or did they tell you that you are clever, smart and amazing? Whatever you were told it is likely that you continue to tell yourself the same story over and over again. You are likely to remember the negative words spoken rather than the positive words – because that’s just what we do, you, me and everyone.

Be mindful of the words you say – both to yourself and others – make them positive. If you are having negative thoughts change them to positive thoughts, if you are thinking or saying something negative, spin your words around so that you express yourself positively. Honesty sometimes requires tactfulness too. Just be mindful of the impact have – both on yourself and others because what goes around comes around so make it positive.

“Mindfulness isn’t difficult. We just need to remember to do it.” – Sharon Salzberg

How do you build character? You focus on one characteristic a week. Often when people go through challenging times in their life they are referred to as character building opportunities. We strive to help you build your character on a weekly basis so that when you go through challenging times, as we all do, you will be better equipped emotionally and mentally to tackle and cope with what life throws at you. By joining our tribe you will not only contribute by creating the world you want to live in – you will inspire others to do the same. Be the change you want to see in the world. Make a difference.

How to practice the ‘Character Of The Week’ (5 mins a day max.):

  • Every morning: 1) Read the card; 2) Reflect on what the card is saying to you right now; 3) Have a great day by trusting that this characteristic will come to mind at the right time during your day
  • Every evening: 1) Reflect whether, when and how you strengthened this characteristic today; 2) if you did strengthen it be proud of who you are; if you didn’t strengthen that characteristic what would do differently next time if you got the opportunity.
  • Life is all about living and learning – and taking action – enjoy!
