Resilience – Characteristic / Virtue of the Week

Resilience – Characteristic / Virtue of the Week

18-24 June 2018

Resilience is the greatest gift you can give yourself and your children. Resilience is the capacity to spring back from life’s challenges, tests and difficulties, which we all have at some stage of our life. The more resilient you are the quicker you bounce back.

Resilience is not something you suddenly develop at any stage of your life, it’s something that gradually grows within you. When you are resilient you will be able to face challenges with more ease opposed to others who may feel anxious or stressed because they have not yet built up their resilience.

By focussing on a virtue each week you are gradually becoming more and more aware of the strengths within you and how you are applying those gifts of character in your life each and every day. Awareness is the first step,  by focussing on a virtue each week, the virtue is within your subconscious and you remember it at appropriate times during each day – the mind is amazing how it recalls what you need when you need it.

By reflecting at the end of each day on how you applied a particular virtue in your life every day you develop, and maintain your growth mindset. You are more aware of who you are and who you want to become. If you didn’t practice the virtue, whatever it may be, and could have, you learn from the experience, you reflect on what you would do differently next time.

If you did practice the virtue you go to bed and put your head on your pillow happy with who you are and who you continue to become, knowing that you grow and develop on a daily basis. You find you are internally stronger.  Virtues keep each other company and I’d just like you to acknowledge your wisdom and openmindedness by taking the action in constantly developing yourself – may you find the resilience you need when you need it – it’s already within, all you need to do is bring it to the surface.

Want to be a better person? Personal growth is a constant transformation – allow the Virtue of the Week to serve as a gentle reminder of who you are and who you want to be. Help create the world you want to live in – as you practice a virtue each week you also serve as a positive example to others and inspire others to do the same. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Actions to take to practice Resilience:

  • Every morning:
    1. Read the card
    2. If you feel the need take a few minutes to reflect on what it means to you right now
    3. Trust that at the right time during the day this virtue will come to mind and you will know when to act on it
  • Every evening:
    1. Take a few minutes to reflect on how you applied this virtue in your life today
    2. If you didn’t practice it, learn from your experiences by considering what you would do differently next time. If you did practice it then acknowledge yourself for doing so as it increases your self awareness and self confidence.
    3. Acknowledge yourself when you do apply this virtue in your life. You will become more self aware and more confident within yourself.
