Self-Discipline is required

Life’s biggest challenge

Applying self-discipline is one of life’s biggest challenges. One of life’s biggest challenge, I have read, heard and believe, is practising self-discipline. It makes total sense. Living life according to your thoughts and beliefs is hard, and self-discipline is required. The people who find this easy are the people who have discovered the art of self-discipline.

Implementing self-discipline is a goal we all decide to embark upon at some stage throughout our life. Many, many times, we make decisions to achieve a particular purpose and consequently give up. Every year, usually around New Year, hordes of people declare to themselves, and others that they are going to do such and such this year.

Declaration & documentation

Some people state their intentions, and you know without a doubt that they will achieve it, probably before their declared date also! Others start and give up on their dreams, and some people keep at it, and it just seems to take forever. You may have given up on them. However, they are still plugging away in the background steadily working towards their dream goal.

Others write their goals and plans for the year and use it as a reminder to keep them on track. The key is to keep your goals in plain sight. That’s why vision boards are useful because a picture tells a thousand words.

Procrastination is a killer

Whether your intentions are big or small, having self-discipline on your side is the way to go. When you have something in your mind that you want to achieve and you are doing everything other than what you need to do to reach your goal then you are procrastinating. There are reasons for procrastination, and often we’d understand them if only we knew what they were.

Something is going on in your head, and you don’t know what it is. Regardless of what it is, procrastination is killing your dream. It would help if you took action. Self-discipline is required to take action. Get the traction going. That builds momentum. When you focus on your outcome, you naturally will fulfil it.

Support yourself

There are numerous ways to support yourself in achieving your goal. Everyone needs help and support. If you need help with self-discipline, some options are creating and implementing, an ideal week template so that you have a system which keeps you focussed. Use an app that keeps you on track. Use the alarm to get up and get going. Importantly, use an app that keeps you centred. Focus Keeper is a helpful app to get things done. When on a time schedule it’s incredible how quickly you complete a task. Get a coach to keep you accountable. My clients get complete tasks quicker when they know we’ll be talking again soon. As do I with my coach.

Be kind to yourself

It’s not easy doing everything you want to do. At all once. Somehow time flies by and before you know it the year is nearly gone. The reason for having an ideal week is helpful as you keep moving forward and making progress. Hindsight teaches you a lot, so take time out for reflection and learn from it. Self-discipline is required to take time out for some. Lastly, be kind to yourself and ensure you include time out for you so that you have the energy to start each week fully charged.
