Wisdom – Hindsight & Insight

What is wisdom?

Wisdom is a mixture of hindsight and insight. Wisdom is using your sound judgement. But it is limited to your knowledge and experience. A wise saying is that you don’t know what you don’t know. So, it is always wise to remember this as that thought encourages an open mind and a growth mindset.

Benefits of hindsight

We all make mistakes, and in every mistake that you made, there was a lesson in it. If you used your wisdom, you would have reflected on the situation and hopefully learned whatever lesson life tossed your way. Wishing you understood then, what you know now would have been useful, but you also need to recognise that life is all about living and learning lessons, and not living in regret.

Insight

Insight, which is having a deep understanding of something or someone, is beneficial when that insight is about yourself. You know yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, so well that when you are so honest with yourself, which is difficult at times, you can get what you want from life. Consequently, you make decisions based on what you know and feel at the time, and that includes thinking things through and having some sort of understanding about all potential outcomes as well as the hoped-for or wanted result.

Trusting yourself

The practice of wisdom means using your whole self when it comes to taking action. You are human and therefore are have various aspects that make you whole. For example, humans often pay attention to the physical aspect because that is what you see, however, the majority of you cannot be seen. What I mean by that is that your mind and your feelings cannot be seen but are essential to help you think things through and make a decision based on how you feel. Trust yourself. Trust your senses while also being mindful not to make decisions based on emotions such as anger or fear.

The balance of wisdom

Wisdom is something you cannot have too much of; however, every topic does require a sense of balance concerning that topic. For example, numerous issues and actions can be used fanatically, and this is where understanding, acceptance, knowledge and education is essential to balance activities concerning every topic. Wisdom in action is always treating everyone, including yourself, with courtesy and respect so always – be kind, be kind, be kind.
